Softball Recap: Desert Christian Triumphs

Desert Christian took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Morenci, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 17-16 on Friday. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered an 11-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Alexa Yarger was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Cali Smith, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Yarger wasn't the only one making solid contact: Desert Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The Eagles are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

With the victory, Desert Christian broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-12. As for Morenci, they now have a losing record of 10-11.

Looking ahead, Desert Christian will challenge St. Augustine Catholic at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.67 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Morenci, they will take on Chandler Prep at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The Titans will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
