Softball Recap: Vienna Starts Season with Win Against Pope County

Vienna had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They never let the Pope County Pirates get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won seven in a row.

Lily Lingle tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single hit, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Abby Jones was a standout: she scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Rayonna Ridley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Vienna has already played their next match, a 12-9 loss against Century on the 18th. As for Pope County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-3 defeat against Shawnee on the 18th.
