Softball Recap: Berlin Comes Up Short

Berlin dropped down to 12-8 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 8-1 to the Southington Blue Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 back in April.

Berlin saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jill Farrand, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

As for Southington, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-3. Considering they have won ten matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Southington's side, Angie Insogna spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Insogna has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alexa Poutouves was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Amber Ramey also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berlin will square off against Conard at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southington, they will face off against Glastonbury at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Guardians have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
