Basketball Recap: Rennie Huff's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jackson Christian over Hillsdale Academy

Jackson Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 37-34 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hillsdale Academy Colts. The Royals lost against the Colts in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 35-8 score last time.

Jackson Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Rennie Huff, who went 7 for 17 en route to 17 points and three steals. That was a full 50% of Jackson Christian's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ella Boll, who earned four points and 13 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Jackson Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matches.

Hillsdale Academy can attribute much of their success to Darby Horsfall, who put up 14 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. Kate Maxwell was another key player, putting up seven points and eight rebounds.

Jackson Christian's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Hillsdale Academy, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Jackson Christian has already played their next contest (against Camden-Frontier), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Hillsdale Academy has also has no score uploaded for their next game, this one against North Adams-Jerome.
