Baseball Game Preview: Oneida Indians vs. Jellico Blue Devils

The Oneida Indians will challenge the Jellico Blue Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Oneida will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

On Friday, Oneida got the win against Scott by a conclusive 13-4. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Highlanders: they've now won seven in a row.

Caden Shoemaker was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Oneida's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 3-11 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Oneida let Eli Rector and Brock Ryon run wild. Rector got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and one triple, while Ryon went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Rector has become a key player for Oneida: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Maddox Hutcherson, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Oneida was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Jellico was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Sunbright, falling 15-0.

Jellico's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Oneida, their victory bumped their record up to 8-13.

Oneida got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2025 against Jellico by a conclusive 15-2 score. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
