Soccer Game Preview: El Primero vs. Summit Shasta

The El Primero Lobos will head out on the road to challenge the Summit Shasta Black Bears at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. El Primero's last three matches have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

El Primero is headed into the game having not lost since January 11 and will look to keep things rolling. Their defense stepped up to hand Design Tech a 1-0 shutout on Monday. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Lobos were the better team in the second half.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Angel Torres, who's now up to 16 this season.

Meanwhile, Summit Shasta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against The Nueva School, falling 6-0. That's two games in a row now that the Black Bears have lost by exactly six goals.

El Primero is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 17 goals over those four matchups. As for Summit Shasta, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9-1.

Everything went El Primero's way against Summit Shasta when the teams last played back in January, as El Primero made off with a 7-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for El Primero since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
