Basketball Recap: Carbon Dinos vs. Manti Templars

The Carbon Dinos's game last Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They took down Manti 58-43. Given Carbon's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Templars are ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Carbon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amiah Timothy led the charge by scoring 21 points along with five assists and four steals. Timothy is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jacie Jensen, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.

Despite the loss, Manti still got an impressive performance from June Olsen, who scored 17 points along with three steals. That was a full 39.5% of Manti's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlie Thompson, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.

Carbon is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Manti, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-14.

Carbon will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Manti, they will head out on the road to challenge the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Sanpete is on a four-game streak of home losses, the Templars a five-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
