Preview: Mission Hills Grizzlies vs. El Camino Wildcats
Mission Hills is 8-0 against El Camino since October of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Mission Hills Grizzlies will head out on the road to face off against the El Camino Wildcats at 7:15 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Mission Hills is ranked 46th, while El Camino is ranked 68th).
Last Friday, Mission Hills was able to grind out a solid win over La Costa Canyon, taking the game 28-21.
Mission Hills' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Troy Huhn, who threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Mission Hills also got help from Jayden Williams who showed off his sure hands for 170 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, El Camino strolled past Poway with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 39-20. The win made it back-to-back wins for El Camino.
Carson Howard was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 240 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Devin Cerda, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Their wins bumped Mission Hills to 5-3 and El Camino to 6-2.
Mission Hills was able to grind out a solid victory over El Camino in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, winning 28-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mission Hills since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
