Basketball Recap: Wakefield Takes a Loss

Wakefield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They took a blow against the Rural Vista [Hope/White City] Heat, falling 61-29. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Heat this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 55-25 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Wakefield lost, don't look at Kingsley Smith. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Smith has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more boards the last three times he's played. Nick Freeman was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Wakefield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Leading Rural Vista [Hope/White City] to victory were Tucker Mein and Gavin Carson. Mein went 6-for-7 en route to 12 points and three steals, while Carson went 5-for-6 on his way to 10 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Mein has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tyler Brockmeier, who scored nine points.

Wakefield's defeat dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Rural Vista [Hope/White City], their win bumped their record up to 11-5.

Wakefield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 69-22 loss against Solomon on the 14th. As for Rural Vista [Hope/White City], they have also already played their next game, a 69-48 defeat against Ell-Saline on the 13th.
