Preview: Tohatchi Cougars vs. Navajo Prep Eagles

Tohatchi is 0-10 against Navajo Prep since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Tohatchi Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Navajo Prep Eagles at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Tohatchi's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.

Tohatchi can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They blew past Cuba 77-57. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Tohatchi has posted since December 7, 2023.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tohatchi to victory, but perhaps none more so than Josh Dawes, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Dawes pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kyle Yazzie, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Meanwhile, Navajo Prep put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season back in December of 2023. They were the clear victor by a 72-52 margin over Rio Rancho. Winning is a bit easier when you drain nine more threes than your opponent, as Navajo Prep did.

Jude Thomas was his usual excellent self, scoring 32 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. Xavier Nez was another key contributor, going 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 2 assists.

Tohatchi is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Navajo Prep, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.

Tohatchi ended up a good deal behind Navajo Prep when the teams last played back in January of 2023, losing 67-53. Can Tohatchi avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
