Softball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Chelsea Mayfield and Macy Mashburn Lead South Pittsburg to Victory

While South Pittsburg's victory against Copper Basin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates beat the Cougars on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-5. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Kaylee Kilgore spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Macy Mashburn and Chelsea Mayfield did most of the damage at the plate: Mashburn went 2-for-6 with two runs and one RBI, while Mayfield went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Mayfield a new career-high. Kynleigh Rice was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

South Pittsburg's record is now 11-9. As for Copper Basin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-10.

South Pittsburg didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 2-1 victory against Whitwell on the 14th. Copper Basin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
