Softball Game Preview: Dyer County Choctaws vs. Haywood Tomcats

The Dyer County Choctaws are taking a road trip to square off against the Haywood Tomcats at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Dyer County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Haywood's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Dyer County managed to slip by South Gibson the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Choctaws lost 9-2 to the Hornets on Saturday. Surprisingly, this marked the Choctaws' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Meanwhile, Haywood waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Tigers.

Lillian Scott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaitlyn Smoot, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.

Dyer County's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 27-8. As for Haywood, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
