Baseball Recap: Lower Cape May Comes Up Short

Lower Cape May extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-4. They took a 14-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Buena Chiefs. Even if the Tigers couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

As for Buena, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Buena's part, Ron Menne was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. With that strong performance, Menne is now averaging an impressive 1.5 stolen bases per game. Ricky Bessix was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Lower Cape May will challenge Holy Spirit at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. As for Buena, they will take on Millville at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. The Chiefs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Thunderbolts have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
