Softball Game Preview: Caney Creek Panthers vs. New Caney Eagles

Caney Creek hasn't had much luck against New Caney recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Caney Creek Panthers will square off against the New Caney Eagles at 11:45 a.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Caney Creek not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 1, 2024. Everything went their way against Cleveland as Caney Creek made off with a 10-4 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Madison Casper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, Cori White was a standout: she scored two runs while going 5-for-5. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Alyssa Manuel was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

Caney Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, New Caney won against Oak Ridge on Wednesday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. New Caney beat Grand Oaks by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

New Caney's record now sits at 12-6-2. As for Caney Creek, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-11.

Caney Creek couldn't quite finish off New Caney in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can Caney Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
