Baseball Game Preview: Amite County Trojans vs. Loyd Star Hornets

Amite County is 0-10 against Loyd Star since April of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. Amite County will face off against Loyd Star at 6:30 p.m. Amite County has given up an average of 15.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Amite County is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 23rd straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They came up short against West Lincoln, falling 19-2.

Meanwhile, Loyd Star gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Bogue Chitto by a score of 10-6.

Carson Cunningham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jordyn Kees, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Loyd Star's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-8 when he doesn't). Barrett Womack also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Loyd Star hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bogue Chitto struck out seven times.

Amite County's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Loyd Star, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-8.

Amite County might still be hurting after the 13-0 defeat they got from Loyd Star in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Amite County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
