Softball Recap: Monterey Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Monterey, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They skirted past the Watertown Purple Tigers 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since March 8th.

Alexandrea Novak was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Monterey let Haylee Trevathan and Haylee Garthwait run wild. Trevathan went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple, while Garthwait went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Kaylin Shepherd was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

Monterey now has a winning record of 10-9-1. As for Watertown, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 11-7.

Monterey has already played their next matchup, a 14-5 win against Red Boiling Springs on the 16th. As for Watertown, they will welcome Cannon County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
