Softball Recap: Canutillo Takes a Loss

If Canutillo was riding high fresh off their 14-6 takedown of Burges last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Canutillo came up short against the Chapin Huskies on Tuesday, falling 16-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Eagles have suffered since February 21st.

Nahomi Arzola was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Abigail Lujan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Even though they lost, Canutillo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matches.

Canutillo's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-9-1. As for Chapin, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5-2 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Canutillo is set to square off against their familiar foe Jefferson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Chapin will face off against rival Andress at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
