Basketball Recap: Dunbar Takes a Loss

After flying high against Lehigh last Friday, Dunbar came back down to earth. The Dunbar Tigers were beaten by the Lely Trojans 59-18 on Tuesday. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-9.

Dunbar's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Tatiana Jean-Simon, who posted two points along with four blocks and three steals, and Arnya Jackson, who scored three points and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Jackson a new career-high. Trinity Salines also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Lely was led to victory by Fara Louissaint and Zashlie Andris. Louissaint went 6 for 9 en route to 13 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals, while Andris went 5 of 11 on her way to 14 points and four steals. Andris has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Reese McLaughlin was another key player, putting up eight points.

Dunbar's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Lely, they pushed their record up to 12-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Dunbar will square off against North Fort Myers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. North Fort Myers' defense has only allowed 27.9 points per game this season, so Dunbar's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Lely, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 56-17 win against Fort Myers on the 30th.
