Softball Recap: Mooresville Beats Carmel for Their Fifth Straight Victory

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mooresville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Carmel Greyhounds, sneaking past 6-4. Winning may never get old, but the Pioneers sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Reagan Bauer spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mooresville let Cierra Cramer and Sophie Culp run wild. Cramer got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one double, while Culp got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Turner, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Mooresville pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Carmel, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-15.

Mooresville has already played their next matchup, a 5-3 defeat against Shelbyville on the 10th. As for Carmel, they will host Fishers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Greyhounds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
