Washington Union has won four straight games at home, while Selma has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Panthers will host the Bears at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Washington Union 2.4, Selma 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Washington Union's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top against Reedley by a score of 4-0. The Panthers have beaten the Pirates the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Pirates has come to flipping the script.
Trey Morris made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Davin Finderup, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Cole Roth, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Selma made easy work of Legacy Christian Academy on Monday and carried off an 11-0 win. With that victory, the Bears brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Kayden Berry was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Francis, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Selma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Legacy Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .211.
Selma is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Washington Union, their victory bumped their record up to 20-5.
Washington Union took their win against Selma in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
