Softball Recap: Westfield Has No Trouble Against Frewsburg

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Westfield and Frewsburg had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Bears on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Eva Gnadzinski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Westfield got a massive performance out of Sydney Hotchkiss, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Hotchkiss a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Arielle Corbett, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Westfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Frewsburg only posted a batting average of .200.

Westfield's record is now 7-5. As for Frewsburg, their loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-13.

Looking ahead, Westfield will welcome Cassadaga Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.89 runs per game on average), something the Wolverines will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Frewsburg, they will head out on the road to take on Chautauqua Lake at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
