Basketball Recap: Mishawaka Marian Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mishawaka Marian had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They took down the Plymouth Pilgrims/Rockies 53-36. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Pilgrims/Rockies are ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

William Owens continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 71% from the field on his way to 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. His big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Joaquin Wilson, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 14 points.

Mishawaka Marian's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-9. As for Plymouth, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-14.

Looking ahead, Mishawaka Marian will take on South Bend St. Joseph at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in South Bend St. Joseph's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests. Plymouth does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
