Softball Recap: Ludlow Takes a Loss

Ludlow had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 12-3 to make it four. They came up short against the East Longmeadow Spartans, falling 17-5. The Lions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for East Longmeadow, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games.

For East Longmeadow's part, Reilly McCauley was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). McCauley has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Angelina Leone was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Ryan, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and six RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ludlow will challenge Chicopee at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pacers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for East Longmeadow, they will face off against Chicopee Comp at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans will need to watch out since the Colts have now posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups.
