Football Recap: David Croom's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Plainfield East over Plainfield South + How To Watch

Plainfield East lost against Plainfield South back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Bengals fell 33-28 to the Cougars. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Bengals, who until this game were averaging 13.8 points allowed.

Plainfield East lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was David Croom, who rushed for 108 yards and one TD. Another player making a difference was Markeith Taylor, who picked up 86 receiving yards and one score.

Artie Gamino was the offensive standout of the matchup as he picked up 105 receiving yards and one touchdown. Those 105 receiving yards gave him a new career-high.

This is the second loss in a row for Plainfield East and nudges their season record down to 3-2. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 4-0 Yorkville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60% over those games). As for Plainfield South, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Plainfield East and Plainfield South could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Bengals will face off against Plainfield North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (260 vs. 123). Meanwhile, Plainfield South (ranked 233rd) will meet Yorkville (ranked 56th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
