Basketball Recap: Peabody-Burns Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Aiden Hurst and Jameson Miles

On Friday, the Peabody-Burns Warriors came up short against the Pike Valley Panthers and fell 66-57. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Peabody-Burns' loss came despite strong showings from Jameson Miles and Aiden Hurst. Miles dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Hurst posted 16 points and eight boards. The matchup was Miles' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Philpott, who put up eight points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Peabody-Burns smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pike Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrew Cooper, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. With that strong performance, Cooper is now averaging an impressive 15.9 points per game. Another player making a difference was Ezra Benne, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds.

Peabody-Burns' record is now 1-4. As for Pike Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season.

Peabody-Burns and Pike Valley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings. Peabody-Burns (ranked 293rd) will meet Little River (ranked 109th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Pike Valley (ranked 269th) will meet Lakeside (ranked 71st) at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th.
