Soccer Game Preview: Monroe vs. Cairo

Monroe hasn't had much luck against Cairo recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Monroe Golden Tornadoes are taking a road trip to square off against the Cairo Syrupmakers at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty goal totals in their previous games.

Monroe barely beat Dougherty the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Monroe's defense stepped up to hand Dougherty a 6-0 shutout on Thursday. The score was close at the half, but the Golden Tornadoes pulled away in the second half with five goals.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cairo, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 4-2 win over Westover on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Syrupmakers' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

With the victory, Cairo broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-3. As for Monroe, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Monroe suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Cairo in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Monroe avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
