Basketball Game Preview: Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart Chargers vs. Lutheran South Academy Pioneers

The Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart Chargers will head out to take on the Lutheran South Academy Pioneers at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Lutheran South Academy took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with 13 defeats in a row dating back to last season, Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart turned things around against Northland Christian on December 14th. They strolled past the Cougars with points to spare, taking the game 41-23. The Chargers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Lutheran South Academy came up short against Pasadena on Saturday and fell 43-36. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart will need focus on slowing down Annaliese De La Pena, one of several Lutheran South Academy players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 18 points and four steals. With that strong performance, De La Pena is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Browning, who earned eight points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Lutheran South Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Lutheran South Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart was dealt a bruising 68-25 defeat at the hands of Lutheran South Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2023. Thankfully for Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart, Makynna Robbins (who almost dropped a triple-double on 23 points, 13 boards, and nine steals) won't be suiting up this time.
