Baseball Game Preview: Round Top-Carmine Cubs vs. Iola Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Round Top-Carmine will face off against Iola. The Cubs will face off against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Round Top-Carmine has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Iola will arrive with five straight wins.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Round Top-Carmine's offense. They lost 16-0 to Iola on Tuesday.

For Iola's part, Brody Vaughn made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Vaughn has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Iola let Colt Childress and Colin Fowler run wild. Childress scored three runs while going 1-for-1, while Fowler went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Childress a new career-high. Eddie Longoria was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

Iola always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Iola pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Round Top-Carmine, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
