Softball Recap: West Iredell Victorious

West Iredell's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 28-1 margin over the Statesville Greyhounds. With that win, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 8 runs per game.

Taylor Stikeleather was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in two of her six plate appearances. She also brought in two RBI, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, West Iredell got a massive performance out of Sam Johnson, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. That triple was Johnson's first of the season. Alyssa Gertsell was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances.

West Iredell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .723. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

West Iredell's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Statesville, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the loss, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: West Iredell beat the Greyhounds by a score of 25-0 on Friday.
