Softball Recap: Smithfield Comes Up Short

Smithfield extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 11-7 in the process. They came up short against the La Salle Academy Rams, falling 11-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in April.

As for La Salle Academy, they pushed their record up to 20-1 with the victory, which was their 24th straight at home dating back to last season. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won 14 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

For La Salle Academy's part, the result came thanks to Hailey Vigneau's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks. Vigneau has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Phoenyx Silva and Nikki Pallotta did most of the damage at the plate: Silva got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Pallotta went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that Pallotta has launched this season. Alivia Ring was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Smithfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for La Salle Academy, they have already played their next match, a 5-4 win against Pilgrim on the 21st.
