Basketball Recap: Woodson Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Woodson had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against the Hayfield Hawks by a score of 61-53. This was a revenge game for the Cavaliers: when they faced off against the Hawks back in December of 2024, they had to take a 50-38 loss.

Woodson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was William Taylor, who posted 14 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Taylor has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylen Chilton, who shot 57% from the field en route to 20 points and seven boards.

Hayfield's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylen Lemon, who went 6-for-11 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. Parker Cage was another key player, putting up ten points.

Woodson pushed their record up to 23-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Hayfield, their loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 23-6.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Woodson will take on Westfield at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Westfield will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Woodson surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hayfield, they will face off against South Lakes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hayfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.7 points per game this season.
