Softball Recap: Phoenix Extends Winning Streak to Six

Phoenix had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Etna Lions. Considering the Pirates have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Destiny Christlieb was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Christlieb was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carsyn Sousa, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Isla Ulrich, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Phoenix was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .414 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Phoenix's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Etna, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Phoenix beat the Lions by a score of 12-2 later that day.
