Preview: East Nashville Magnet Eagles vs. Cheatham County Central Cubs
The East Nashville Magnet Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cheatham County Central Cubs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. East Nashville Magnet knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Cheatham County Central likes a good challenge.
East Nashville Magnet stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 35-0 victory over Stratford at home. Given East Nashville Magnet's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Stratford is ranked 253rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
East Nashville Magnet found their leader in underclassman Keith Johnson, who rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Martez Lamb, who rushed for 35 yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Stratford to a paltry 167 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to East Nashville Magnet's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Malik Bolling and his three sacks.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 56 points the game before, Cheatham County Central were a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were outmatched by Lawrence County at home and fell 48-6. Cheatham County Central was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-0.
East Nashville Magnet's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-2. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 40.33 points. As for Cheatham County Central, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
East Nashville Magnet was able to grind out a solid win over Cheatham County Central in their previous meeting back in November of 2017, winning 13-3.
