Basketball Recap: SIUE East St. Louis Charter Comes Up Short

SIUE East St. Louis Charter played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Confluence Prep Academy Titans, falling 74-48. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 575th in Illinois, while the Titans are ranked 186th in Missouri).

Despite the loss, SIUE East St. Louis Charter still got an impressive performance from Kejuan Rives, who posted 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Rives is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Wiley, who had 12 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, SIUE East St. Louis Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

SIUE East St. Louis Charter's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Confluence Prep Academy, their win bumped their record up to 6-10.
