Trinity is 0-8 against Independence since April of 2021 but things could change on Monday. The Trojans will be playing at home against the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Trinity has given up an average of 16.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Trinity is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They came up short against Lutheran West, falling 24-7.
Emily Sunday made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Nia Mckinney, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Independence waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Red Wolves get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.
Lila Manfredonia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one triple.
In other batting news, Macey McGhee and Paige Priebe did most of the damage at the plate: McGhee went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Priebe went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Melina Rodriguez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cuyahoga Heights only posted a batting average of .062.
Independence's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Trinity, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Trinity has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Trinity might still be hurting after the 21-0 defeat they got from Independence in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Trojans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
