Football Recap: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints vs. Isle of Wight Academy Chargers
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against North Cross, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 26-6 margin over the Isle of Wight Academy Chargers. This was payback for the Saints, who suffered a 10-7 defeat the last time these two teams met.
A big part of the win came down to the chemistry between Vann Baggett and his top target Greer Barclay. Baggett threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes while Barclay picked up 152 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards. A healthy portion of that aerial production (90 yards to be exact) also went to Madden Gilliatt, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
The victory got Nansemond-Suffolk Academy back to even at 1-1. As for Isle of Wight Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Collegiate at 7:00 p.m. on September 13th.
