Recap: North Marion Colts vs. Dunnellon Tigers

This season hasn't been kind to the North Marion Colts, who are still winless after their 15th contest. They took a serious blow against Dunnellon on Wednesday, falling 60-13. North Marion was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-8.

Despite the defeat, North Marion saw an underclassman step up: Amarane Hopkins scored three points along with 11 rebounds. Hopkins is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, North Marion struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Dunnellon pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.

It was another big night for Tatiana Matthews, who almost dropped a triple-double on 24 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists for Dunnellon. That makes it four consecutive games in which Matthews has scored at least a third of Dunnellon's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tony'ah Boggs, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten steals.

North Marion bumped their record down to 0-15 with that loss, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Dunnellon, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Marion and Chiefland will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Chiefland comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Dunnellon, they will be playing at home against Crystal River at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Crystal River is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
