Softball Recap: St. Raphael Academy Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

St. Raphael Academy had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Scituate on Monday. The Saints blew past the Spartans 14-1. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Emma Martin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avalynn Guatieri, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Sophie Roman, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

St. Raphael Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

St. Raphael Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Scituate, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Coming up, St. Raphael Academy will venture away from home to take on Coventry at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Scituate, they will welcome Cumberland at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans are facing the Clippers at the right time seeing as the Clippers are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
