Baseball Recap: Highland Snags Third Win in Last Four Games

Highland came out on top against Teutopolis on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Bulldogs took their matchup against the Wooden Shoes 6-3. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by exactly three runs.

Nolan Houchins looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Kaden Leckrone and Carter Holthaus did most of the damage at the plate: Leckrone went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run, while Holthaus went 2-for-3 with two runs. That's the most runs Holthaus has posted since back in March.

Highland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Teutopolis, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-4.

Looking ahead, Highland will square off against Edwardsville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Teutopolis, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Glenwood at 10:00 a.m. The Titans will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Wooden Shoes surely won't give up without a fight.
