Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maryvale). They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Rincon/University Rangers 82-79. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Maryvale's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Devin Murphy, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds. Those 24 points gave Murphy a new career-high. David Jaramillo was another key player, going 6 of 13 on his way to 17 points.

Maryvale smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Rincon/University still got an impressive performance from Abel Munoz McDaniels, who went 11 for 15 en route to 32 points and five boards. That was a full 40.5% of Rincon/University's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jonah (Sam) O'Dowd, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists.

Maryvale has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.8 points per game. As for Rincon/University, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.

Maryvale has already played their next contest, an 81-70 win against Camelback on the 22nd. As for Rincon/University, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-55 loss against Tucson High Magnet School on the 22nd.
