Baseball Recap: Junction City Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Harmony Grove, Junction City was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They came out on top against the Magnet Cove Panthers by a score of 7-2. For the Dragons, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2025.

Jaxon Temple spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Junction City is 5-0-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Stihl Sherman and Reid Cates did most of the damage at the plate: Sherman got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Cates got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Cates has become a key player for Junction City: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-8-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Joe Thompson, who earned one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.

The victory got Junction City back to even at 9-9-1. As for Magnet Cove, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7.

Coming up, Junction City will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Claiborne Academy at 5:00 p.m. The Rebels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.2 runs per game on average), something the Dragons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Magnet Cove, they will venture away from home to face off against Parkers Chapel at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
