Basketball Recap: Madison Mavericks vs. Johnson Jaguars

Madison was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 63-12 loss at the hands of the Johnson Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 932nd, while the Jaguars are ranked 112th).

Sophia Campa was Madison's leading scorer, having posted six points. Mikaela Garcia held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Johnson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava Mitchell, who posted eight points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. That's the most assists Mitchell has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Janae Johnson, who earned four points and six steals.

Madison's loss dropped their record down to 4-27. As for Johnson, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 23-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Madison will challenge Brandeis at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Johnson, they will face off against LEE at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Johnson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season.
