Softball Game Preview: Chatham Panthers vs. Saugerties Sawyers

The Chatham Panthers will face off against the Saugerties Sawyers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Chatham 1.1, Saugerties 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Chatham is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Colonie Central on Wednesday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolfpack. The Panthers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Saugerties waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Warriors 8-2. Considering the Sawyers have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Jess Gumbel, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alanna Mower, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Chatham's defeat dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Saugerties, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.

Chatham suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Saugerties in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
