Basketball Recap: Azerion Jennings' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Valley over Briarwood Christian

Valley and Briarwood Christian squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Valley had to settle for second. They fell 62-49 to the Briarwood Christian Lions. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while the Lions are ranked 74th).

Valley's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Azerion Jennings, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Weaver, who went 5 for 10 to rack up 12 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 11 consecutive games.

Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Briarwood Christian, their win bumped their record up to 19-11.

Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Briarwood Christian, they will take on Montevallo on Tuesday. Montevallo will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Briarwood Christian surely won't give up without a fight.
