Baseball Game Preview: Washington Jaguars vs. Kent County Trojans

Washington hasn't had much luck against Kent County recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Jaguars will square off against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. The last three games Washington has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Washington took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Crisfield, sneaking past 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Jaguars have posted against the Crabbers since May 12, 2022.

Dawson Daniels made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Evan Dryden was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Nasear Bailey was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Kent County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They lost 19-0 to Queen Anne's County. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

The win snapped Washington's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 3-14 record. As for Kent County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.

Washington couldn't quite finish off Kent County in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
