Softball Recap: Foothill Starts Season with Win on the Road

Foothill had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Newark Memorial Cougars by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Falcons as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Myra Galzie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Foothill got a big performance out of Kaycie Burdick, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Burdick, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Coming up, Foothill will square off against Castro Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Newark Memorial, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars take on the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
