Basketball Game Preview: Carlmont Scots vs. Menlo-Atherton Bears

The Carlmont Scots will challenge the Menlo-Atherton Bears at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Carlmont will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

On Wednesday, Carlmont was able to grind out a solid win over Jefferson, taking the game 58-45. Given the Scots' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 554th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Menlo-Atherton's strategy against Burlingame on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Menlo-Atherton blew Burlingame out of the water with a 62-29 final score. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 20 points or more this season.

Carlmont has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.2 points per game. As for Menlo-Atherton, they pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Carlmont couldn't quite finish off Menlo-Atherton in their previous matchup two weeks ago and fell 62-60. Can Carlmont avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
