Baseball Game Preview: O'Connor Eagles vs. Desert Vista Thunder

O'Connor is 9-1 against Desert Vista since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Thunder at 3:45 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (O'Connor 3.9, Desert Vista 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

O'Connor took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They blew past Mountain Ridge 10-1.

The team relied heavily on Brent Sollars, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: O'Connor kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain Ridge only managed four hits.

Meanwhile, Desert Vista faced Corona del Sol in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Thunder came up short against the Aztecs, falling 10-1. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Thunder, who until this game were averaging 4.04 runs allowed.

Desert Vista saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex McKee, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Desert Vista's loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for O'Connor, their win bumped their record up to 18-9.

O'Connor skirted past Desert Vista 9-8 in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Thunder have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
