Baseball Game Preview: Kentwood Conquerors vs. Eastside Catholic Crusaders

The Kentwood Conquerors will square off against the Eastside Catholic Crusaders at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Kentwood's victory against Auburn wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Conquerors never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 2-0 win on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Conquerors in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.

Not much got past Jack Coleman, who gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Auburn off the board. Coleman also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Kentwood is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Kentwood's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jett Chavez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run. Those three hits gave Chavez a new career-high. Brandon Bail also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Eastside Catholic entered their tilt with West Seattle on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came out on top against West Seattle by a score of 5-2.

Eastside Catholic pushed their record up to 13-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Kentwood, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10.
