Basketball Game Preview: Overton Mustangs vs. New Summerfield Hornets

The Overton Mustangs will take on the New Summerfield Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Overton's favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home while New Summerfield has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.

Last Friday, Overton humbled Cushing with a 71-31 victory. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Overton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayden Edwards out in front who went 12 for 17 en route to 26 points and three steals. Those 26 points gave Edwards a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Hall, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 12 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Meanwhile, New Summerfield came up short against Carlisle on Friday and fell 51-39.

Overton is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.2 points per game. As for New Summerfield, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.

Everything came up roses for Overton against New Summerfield when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 71-31 victory. In that game, Overton amassed a halftime lead of 40-19, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
